Ever since the beginning of the Indian Premier League, Royal Challenger Bangalore has been one of the most high-profile teams. Still, the franchisee is not able to bring home a title.
Despite having some of the best players in the team, the Virat Kohli led side has found themselves lacking in one department or another. The pressure is usually on skipper Kohli or his second-in-command AB de Villiers, but often it is the bowling department that lacks the potential. Experts believe that RCB arguably loses in the IPL auction instead of the pitch.
However, for IPL 2020, Royal Challengers Bangalore seem to have put together a decent team that can break the jinx and bring home the IPL trophy.
Here are the reasons, RCB is one of the favourites to win the title.
#3 Youngblood in RCB is eager to prove themselves
The 21-member squad of RCB have a host of young blood who wants to prove their mantle in the most prestigious T20 League in the world.
Devdutt Padikkal has an extraordinary first-class season to back his value. During the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, the southpaw was the leading run-getter and finished with 609 runs. The 20-year-old southern star has shown that he packs some crucial knocks and have the ability to play long innings.
Josh Philippe who has long been seen as the future of the Australian middle order is another young player RCB can count on. The Tamil all-rounder, Washington Sundar is excellent on the pitch and can become a vital cog in the RCB wheel.
#2 RCB might have just got over their death bowling issues
Over the years, lack of quality death bowling has plagued RCB. Mitchell Starc has struggled with injuries while Tymal Mills’ acquisition hardly went to plan. Lack of any quality Indian pacer in Kohli’s team has affected them for a large part of the IPL.
But for IPL 2020 session, Bangalore is able to sign Chris Morris for 10 crores and bag Kane Richardson for another 4 crores. These two might finally be able to add reliability to the death overs. Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj have clearly improved and will be important in IPL 2020.
#1 RCB has a solid batting lineup and experienced as ever
Previously RCB has always relied on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers for a long time to get runs but this year Aaron Finch was bought for 4.4 crores. With the inclusion of the Australian limited-overs captain, the burden on the top of the order of RCB will greatly lessen.
With Parthiv Patel in the midst, Bangalore will have a strong opening combination. If Padikkal or Philippe find a place in the playing XI, the youngsters will have the veteran leadership to fall back on to.
