The Sri Lankans are continuously down due to injury woes. The all-rounder Asela Gunaratne and pacer Shehan MadhuShanka were out of the Nidahas tri-national tournament due to injuries.There was a time of fortnight for the commencement of Nidahas tournament at Colombo.
The 32-year old player Gunaratne went to Bangladesh for T20I series of two matches but came back home without playing a game due to injury in his shoulder. On the other hand, Madhushanka got hurt in his left hamstring while he was bowling his third over in the second T20I in Sylhet on Sunday.
The pacer has to undergo an MRI scan on Wednesday to estimate the intensity of the injury and sources said that he has to be out of the field for a remarkable time. The chairman of selectors committee said that both of the players will be out of the Nidahas tournament.
Madhushanka was unexpectedly selected for the Bangladesh tour. He played only a few matches for domestic cricket. He made his debut in the tri-national series against Bangladesh and gave a decent end by a hat-trick.
Earlier, Gunaratne suffered an injury to his left thumb and was out of play for nearly five months before he was back to the play for a series against India in December 2017.
The Sri Lankan team is down due to injury woes. The Captain Angelo Mathews, wicket-keeper batsmen Kusal Janith Perera and pacers Nuwan Pradeep and Dushmanth Chameera have to get through the fitness tests on Monday to get into the team for the Nidahas trophy.
The Nidahas trophy is to be held at Colombo in R.Premadasa Stadium. The series comprises of seven one-dayers played by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The inaugural match of the series is about to be held on 6th March 2018 from 7 pm local time. This competition is to be held to commemorate the 70th Independence day celebrations of Sri Lanka.
