Team India is all set to encounter Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the Nidahas tournament from March 6th. The curtain-raiser match will be played between India and Sri Lanka at Colombo in R.Premadasa Stadium.
One of the BCCI officials on the constraints of anonymity revealed that the top players including
Virat Kohli is likely to be rested for this tri-series. This tri-series is going to be held to commemorate the 70th Independence Day celebrations of Sri Lanka.
In addition to the Indian skipper, Jasprit Bumrah, MS Dhoni, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya will be likely provided rest for this tri-series.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma led the ODI series against Sri Lanka in 2017. In his leadership, the team won two matches and lost one. Currently, this hitter is out of form and was being criticized for his poor performance in the tour to South Africa except a hundred in the ODI series.
India is playing non-stop cricket series for a few months. Keeping upcoming series against New Zealand and England, the senior players are likely to miss out this tri-series. So, the BCCI decided to give the Indian skipper rest for the upcoming tri-series.
Speaking about the decision of BCCI, the official said, “What is the point of sending these cricketers after such a hectic South African tour.”
The team for the Nidahas tournament would be expected to be announced on Sunday.Rishabh Pant, the Delhi wicket-keeper who did well in the Vijay Hazare tournament is one of the youngsters who may get an opportunity to play in the tri-series.
The official said that the chief of the National Selection committee, MSK Prasad was caught chatting with Rishabh Pant at a match in Palam cricket ground. The official said that this series would be a good opportunity for the youngsters to strengthen their place in the team for upcoming series.
The Nidahas tournament is scheduled to be held from March 6th to March 18th, 2018.
