After 3rd T20I, India Move To The Third Position In ICC T20I Rankings

India started their South Africa tour on not a very pleasant note. With miserable performance in the first two Tests, the team bounced back in the third Test. Following the Test series, the hosts took charge of the following 6-match ODI series winning 4-2.

icc rankingNow finally in the concluded T20I series India registered a 2-1 win in the series. With the recent wins, India became the only team to be in the top 3 position in all the formats of the game.

After yesterday’s win, India gained one rating point and move up to the third spot in the latest ICC T20I rankings. The hosts registered a 2-1 win with the latest concluded series, India is just 4 rating points behind the top two ranking teams, i.e. Pakistan and Australia.

Both Pakistan and Australia have a total of 126 rating points but the former leads beyond the decimal points. Pakistan has a total of 125.84 points while the Aussies have 125.65 points that they culminated in the recent Trans-Tasman T20 series.

After the India-South Africa series, Kangaroos have slipped to 7th position in the T20I rankings after losing one rating point when India won the series 2-1. India has 121 points before the series began and after the series, the hosts gained a point. However, if the team India had won all the three T20 matches they would have been one point closer to the top ranking, Pakistan.

Series Round-Up

At the beginning of the series, India won the first T20I with a margin of 28 runs in the opening match at Johannesburg. However, in the second match, Proteas suffered a hard defeat with six wickets. In the final T20I, India struggled at the beginning when the team lost wicket of Virat Kohli early. But Rohit Sharma filled the gap and was able to defend the score of 172. After a thrilling clash, India registered a 7 run victory that gave the team 2 rating points.

Coming Up Series

After the South Africa tour, India will be participating in the tri-nation Nidahas Trophy against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The T20I tri-series will begin on March 6, 2018, where India will take on the hosts at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Interestingly, even if India is undisputedly victorious in the series of 5 matches, still the team cannot replace Pakistan or Australia in the ranking chart.

It is really not a matter of concern as of even when team India is at the third spot in T20I rankings, as being the only team to be in the top 3 positions in all three formats states the impressive consistency of the team in the recent times.
