IPL 2018: Sairaj Bahutule Appointed to Rajasthan Royals Training Staff

The Rajasthan Royals team, headed by Zubin Bharucha, has appointed former Indian leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule as its spin bowling coach on February 27. The team which is returning to the field after a ban of two years will be headed by Shane Warne as the team’s mentor and Australian batsman, Steve Smith as the skipper.

sairajThe ecstatic player looks forward to working with the Rajasthan Royal’s coaching staff as he expressed his enthusiasm to be working alongside the legendary Shane Warne.

“It is a privilege to be part of Rajasthan Royals coaching staff. I am excited to be part of a team that has legendary Shane Warne as the mentor. I am looking forward to working with the players and share my knowledge, guide them through as we prepare for the grueling season,” said Bahutule.

Having taken 630 wickets at an average of 26 while notching up 6176 runs, which included nine centuries, at an average of 31.83, spanning over 118 first-class matches, Sairaj Bahutule stands in a league of his own, being an exceptional leg-spinner and an equally crafty batsman. The player has already held various coaching responsibilities with different states and has been employed as the coach of Bengal team for the previous three seasons, leading the team to quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy.

With the upcoming IPL 2018, Bahutule would be teaming up with Zubin Bharucha to oversee a three-day camp where most of the Rajasthan Royal’s players will train. Bharucha expressed his enthusiasm on having Bahutule on the team especially with the player’s exemplary playing history.

“I welcome Sairaj on board. He brings with him immense experience as a player and coach. The camp in Mumbai will be an ideal start to know the players closely, work on specifics and plan the season ahead,” Bharucha said.

The IPL season is due to kick off on April 9 with Rajasthan Royals battling against Sunrisers Hyderabad, followed by the Royals facing against Delhi Daredevils on April 11 at their home ground, Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. With Sairaj Bahutule’s past record as both a phenomenal player and an equally extraordinary coach, this IPL season would be one where the Rajasthan Royals might have a lot to prove.
