Coming to the predictions about the team composition for the first match of Nidahas trophy to be held at Premadasa stadium, Colombo tomorrow, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were the prominent batsmen in the team in the absence of the captain Virat Kohli. As we all know that the captain Virat Kohli and the pacer Jasprit Bumrah along with MS Dhoni and Kuldeep Yadav were rested for the series, there will be some crucial changes in the Indian lineup.Coming to the bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah is about to make a place for Shardul Thakur. He was in the 15-man squad for ODI series and took 4 wickets off 52 runs in the sixth one-dayer against South Africa. This Mumbai player did a good job in the second and third T20I matches as well. This 26-year old player did great at times with unpredictable pace and extra bounce.
Jayadev Unadkat did his best in the t20 series against Sri Lanka. He was the man of the series for his comeback series against Sri Lanka. He will be the crucial bowler for the team, by his left-arm break style.
One man among the Indian spin twins, Yuzwendra Chahal cemented his place for this series. Chahal did great in the series against South Africa and the team would be incomplete without a wrist-spinner. He will be the main weapon for the team in the middle overs.
The prophecies about batting line-up are at the heights as Rohit Sharma will be the Captain for this series. Though he was out of form and did not reach the expectations except in the fifth one-dayer against South Africa, he had his eyes to do great in the series. In addition, he had a good record as a captain as team India registered a series victory under his leadership.
Shikhar Dhawan is expected to open for the team and he was the vice-captain of the team for this series. He did well in the series against South Africa and is known for consistency in scoring runs during power plays.
Suresh Raina is the specialist batsman for Team India in the middle order. He is confident in his comeback with 43 runs and a wicket in the final T20I, he is expected to share the load as an all-rounder in the absence of the captain Virat Kohli. Manish Pandey can be considered as a substitute for Kohli at No.4. He is in good form throughout the series and scored 79 runs against South Africa in the second T20I.
Dinesh Kartik is a good wicket-keeper if the selectors want to give him a chance. He did great in the Cape Town T20I with back to back boundaries. The 20-year old cricketer, Pant is given another chance to prove himself as a batsman after a year. Rishabh Pant is a good hitter as well.
As Hardik Pandya was out of this series, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar were expected to play for the team as all-rounders in this series. Shankar can be considered as an alternate to Sundar as this spinner may get more wickets on the slow pitch of Premadasa Stadium.
Sundar has an impressive record in his IPL career. He did well in the U-19 world cup with 8 wickets at an average of 23.12. Sundar is a good bowler but with the evolution of spin twins, he hardly got a chance to prove himself. Though Axar Patel did well in IPL, he did not get an opportunity on international grounds since his debut in 2015. He is expected to perform well with both the bat and the ball.
Some of the newcomers like Deepak Hooda, Mohammad Siraj, and Vijay Shankar were in the 15-member squad for the first game and might be placed in the final team.
