Kusal Perera’s performance helped the hosts to register their first victory in the Nidahas tournament. He made his 8th half-century in the T20I career. Sri Lankans made a better performance in all the departments than the visitors.The newbie Washington Sundar and Yuzwendra Chahal tried their best to make a better score but later their efforts were left futile.
Though the hosts made a slow start and lost Kusal Mendis at the score of 11 runs. But the entry of Kusal Perera turned the tables. He thrashed Shardul Thakur by scoring 27 runs in a single over.Later he was joined by Gunathilaka and the duo made 50 runs off 17 balls. But Gunathilaka failed to keep on his start and fell at 19 runs to Jayadev Unadkat.
Dinesh Chandimal came at No.4 to make a stand with Perera. By then, Perera made 50 runs off 22 balls, his 8th T20I fifty. Washington Sundar came to bowl for his final spell and succeeded to dismiss Perera at the score of 66 runs. Thisara Perera made his best to rebuild the innings by the score of 22 runs. By that time Tharanga departed due to a wrong shot in the spell of Chahal.
Dhanushka Shenaka entered the crease like a silver lining and led the team toward the win by making 15 runs and making the 5th wicket stand of39 runs.
In the Indian Innings earlier, Shikhar Dhawan scored 90 runs to make the team’s score reach 174 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. He is the highest scorer for the innings followed by Manish Pandey’s 37 runs.
India is about to encounter Bangladesh for the second T20I on 8th March.
