The Sri Lankan team is looking for keeping up the journey of victories in the Nidahas tournament. The Sri Lankans are heading to encounter Bangladesh in the third T20I in the Nidahas tournament. The hosts are high in their confidence levels with the surprising victory over India in the curtain-raiser match. The Sri Lankans are confident about the victory and they have an impressive record against the Bangladeshi team. The Sri Lankans registered back to back test and T20I series victories recently and a tri-national series victory in which Zimbabwe also participated.
The hosts did a mesmerizing performance in the first match against India. They managed to reach the target of 175 runs by consistent performance of Kusala Perera. Having a glance at the bowling department, leg-spinner Jeewan Mendis succeeded to restrict the Indian team’s score and the pacer Dushmantha Chameera managed to take the wickets at regular intervals.
The openers Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis made a good start but could not keep up the stand. They are expected to do better in the third T20I. After the victory against India, the Sri Lankan captain Chandimal said that they owe their victory to the coach Hathurusingha. He said that they are feeling good after their win. Hathurusingha was the coach for Bangladesh earlier.
Chandimal commented that “This is all about transferring confidence from the Bangladesh series. The management has done a wonderful job at training sessions. Chandika Hathurusingha has been amazing. This result shows how good we are as a team.”
Coming to the Bangladesh team, they are under pressure on account of back to back defeats. Their main drawback is an inconsistent middle order that stopping them from a better score. The injury of Shakib Al Hasan is one of the reasons for poor competency of Bangladesh team.
In this context, the captain Mahammadullah said, “We should have scored a lot more runs, probably 30 more runs. They (India) executed their plans very well but we should have found ways to make more runs. We need to rotate the strike more often. The dot balls created a lot of pressure. I think we are just one win away from getting a boost. We’re still searching for it and I think we’ll get it.”
Though the pacers did well in the game, the spinners failed to restrict the Indian batsman in the crucial overs. This is the must-win match for Bangladesh to keep their hopes alive for the finals.
