Delhi DareDevils was at crossroads to select a pacer to replace Mohammed Shami. The BCCI withheld the name of Shami in the annual contracts list due to personal allegations including torture and adultery by his wife. Jahan and Shami were married for four years. On Friday an FIR was filed against Shami based on severe personal allegations by his wife. His cricket career was put into confusion by these allegations. Here are some of the players who have the potential to replace Shami for Delhi DareDevils.
- Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma has a bright T20 career. He did well in his long IPL career. He is a Delhi local lad but played for Kings XI Punjab as a replacement for Murali Vijay. He was allotted a base price of Rs.75 lakh in the current IPL edition. He is left unsold for the current edition but has the experience of playing for five different IPL teams.
- Ashok Dinda
He was left almost unsold in IPL 2016 but finally played for Pune. Though he was not in good form by that time, he managed to play a beautiful spell of3/23 against Sunrisers. He remained unsold for current edition and his base-price was 50 lakhs. He took a single wicket off 17 matches in the previous IPL edition.
- Srinath Aravind
This Karnataka bowler made some wonders in IPL 2011 and currently going to announce his retirement from the domestic cricket. He played one or two matches for RCB in 2016 and 2017. He took 185 wickets off 56 first-class matches and 57 wickets from 41 teams A matches. He will be an asset for DareDevils during Powerplays. His base-price was 50 lakhs and was left unsold in the auction.
- Rajneesh Gurbani
He played a significant role in the Vidarbha’s title victory in the Ranji trophy 2016-17. He stood as the second wicket taker with 39 wickets. He made the hat-trick in the final against Delhi with his spell of 6/59 and succeeded to restrict Delhi at 295 runs. His base-price was Rs.20 lakhs and has no buyers in the current auction. He has the chances to benefit from Shami’s absence.
- Varun Aaron
He gained popularity along with Umesh Yadav earlier. He played for the RCB in 2017 but could not repay his reward of Rs.2.8 crores. He took a few wickets and his economy rate was very high in that season. He played in six IPL seasons. He played in 48 first-class matches and 42 teams A matches. He has the chances of surprise replacement to the pacer Shami. He can cover the pace up to 145 kph.
