Bangladesh was under pressure due to defeat against India. They won against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in three T20Is. They lost three T20Is, two ODIs, and one test match. Bangladesh-Sri-LankaThe Bangladeshi skipper Mahammadullah got empathy from the experts but could not help out the team in the first T20I against India. The Bangladeshis were again prone to inconsistent middle-order in that match. Mahammadullah had to encounter questions showered on him after the match with just one statement that “I strongly believe we have the capability to do well, it is just about that one game which will give us our momentum back, we are waiting for that moment, if we get that, you will see a different Bangladesh.”

Mahammadullah was called the gallant cricketer but the team’s fears are reasonable due to back to back losses on the Sri Lankan soil. The stats of dot balls are the strong reason for the loss in the first T20I against India. The Bangladeshis faced 55 dot balls and 43 singles in the first match against India. The dot balls accounted up to 45 percent of total deliveries in the innings.

The batsmen have to work hard over consistency in the middle overs and take leaves out of their captain’s book. They should get motivated by pros like Mushfiqur Rahim. They have to make themselves strong enough to stand the attack of Kusal Perera and Nuwan Pradeep.

The win against India in the curtain raiser match of the trophy boosted the confidence of the hosts to the heights. They were also low due to back to back defeats a few months ago. The advent of Hathurusingha as Sri Lankan coach changed the picture of the team’s performance. The team has to be cautious about the highest economy of Dhananjaya and Nuwan Pradeep. Though the pacers from Bangladesh are in good form, the batsmen have to get out of the safe zone to get a huge score.

  • The match is about to take place on 10th March 2018 at Premadasa Stadium Colombo at 7pm local time.
  • The weather forecast warned about showers in the afternoon but the climate will be pleasant in the evening.
  • Thisara Perera was one wicket away from 50 T20i wickets. Whichever team may lose, it will be the team that lost 50 T20 matches standing next to New Zealand which lost 52 T20s.
  • Bangladesh has won only one T20I out of 14 T20Is in a year. They won the T20I against Sri Lanka a year ago.

Probable Sri Lanka XI

There won’t be major changes in the Sri Lankan team. Probably Nuwan Pradeep may miss out the match.

Dinesh Chandimal (captain/wicket-keeper), Dhanushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera, Dashun Shenaka,  Upul Tharanga, Suranga Lakmal, Jeewan Mendis, Dushantha Chameera, and Akhila Dhananjaya

Bangladesh Probable XI

Mahammadullah(captain), Mushafiqur Rahim(wicket-keeper), Rubel Hossain, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal, Sabbir Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan, Nazmul Aslam, and Mustafizur Rahman.

Speaking about their team, Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladeshi pacer said, “We haven’t been doing well in the last few series. We are playing better in ODIs. We did well in the 2016 Asia Cup in T20s. I think it is becoming more visible since we haven’t been doing well recently. We will definitely improve.”

Sri Lankan pace-bowling coach Rumesh Ratnayake said that, “As I always say talent was aplenty in our team, it’s just that the mindset of the boys – and I think coach Chandika Hathurusingha has come in taken maximum part in that – I would say he has changed their mindset by letting them do the things on their own.”
