Andre Russell missed out the Pakistan super League or PSL due to a hamstring injury. This Caribbean all-rounder pulled on his right arm string in the very first over of the match against Karachi Kings. He played for Islamabad United. He was back to the international cricket recently after completion of ban period. He was banned for a year because he was found guilty of breaching doping rules. If he cannot play for the current IPL edition, the Kolkata Knight Riders have to look for a player to replace him.
Here are five players who can replace Russel for the current IPL edition.
- Andile Phehlukwayo (Rs.50 lakhs of base price)
This South African player did not do well in the series against India. This all-rounder picked 6 wickets and 87 runs in that series. He has to face a lot of competition to secure a place in the team.
In his T20I career, he scored 265 runs and 35 wickets in 49 matches. In the T20I series against India, this 22-year old youth took 1/16, 1/15 and 0/26.
- Jason Holder ( Base price of Rs.1.5 crores)
This West Indies all-rounder did not play well for KKR in IPL 2016. So he was left unsold for 2017 and 2018 IPL editions. In 2016, he scored 22 runs and picked two wickets in four matches. He did not play for the team though he was included in the squad for the World T20I. He scored 99* in the world cup qualifier. In his T20I career, he scored 472 runs and took 56 wickets off 74 matches.
- Moises Henriques( Base price of Rs. 1.5 crores)
This Australian all-rounder played well for Hyderabad Sunrisers in 2015. He scored 287 runs at the strike-rate of 136 and took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 6.32 in nine matches. He took 12 wickets in IPL 2016. He scored 746 runs and picked 24 wickets in 84 IPL matches in 2015,2016 and 2017.
- James Faulkner( Base price of Rs.2 crores)
Faulkner, the Australian all-rounder is known as the competent captain for his short-cricket side. He played for Pune Warriors in 2011, Kings Xi Punjab in 2012, Rajasthan Royals for seasons 2013 to 2015 and Gujarat Lions for IPL 2016. He took six wickets and scored nearly 200 runs in BBL 7 from nine games. His economy rate was 7.95.
- Corey Anderson ( Base price of Rs.2 crores)
Corey Anderson struggled a lot to make his mark for Delhi DareDevils. He scored just 142 runs and 3 wickets from 11 matches. So, he was left unsold for the current edition. Due to a back injury, he may not do well but has a vast short-cricket experience. He scored 1768 runs in 100 matches with a strike rate of 138.63 and took 27 wickets.
