The New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner is going to miss out IPL 2018 due to the knee injury. He has to undergo a knee surgery that rules him out of the game for nine months. He was prone to a severe knee injury in the ODI series against England. He will be away from NatwestT20 Blast also.New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said that everyone in the team feels for Mitchell. He said that “He’s a popular guy in the changing room and he’s well respected for the work he puts in for the side. “Mitchell is a key player in all three formats for us, so we’ll certainly miss him in the upcoming series.
“It’s important though that he gets this fixed and we have him back for what is a big next 18 months for us,” he added.
Mitchell Santner was bought by the Chennai Super Kings franchise for a price of Rs.50 lakhs. He played a key role in the victory of New Zealand in the five ODI series against England. He did well with the ball more than the bat.
He secured 6th place in the ICC rankings for bowlers and 9th rank in the ICC rankings for the batsmen. He was ruled out of the test-series and will be replaced by BJ Watling who recovered recently from a hip injury.
The Chennai Super Kings is looking to replace Santner. The team has to play the Mumbai Indians in the opening match of IPL on April 7th.
The injury to this 26-year old all-rounder is a huge blow for the team. All are hoping for his speedy recovery and return within nine months.
