Delhi DareDevils was one of the strongest but inconsistent teams in the Indian Premier League earlier. Some experts feel that the franchise missed out many chances to win the title owing to minor mistakes. But for the current edition, the team has more chances than any other team to win the IPL. The team seems to be the combination of talent, potential, and experience making it one of the formidable teams in the current season of IPL.   1. Ricky Ponting appointed as head coach

Ricky Ponting is one of the cricket legends. He was appointed as the head coach for the team before the commencement of the auction for current IPL edition.

Ricky Ponting acted as the head coach of Mumbai Indians earlier and led the team of Australia for two world cups in 2003 and 2007. He was popular as a solid batsman and a consistent strategist. He was the head coach of Mumbai Indians when they won the IPL title in 2015. He was very familiar with Indian pitches and has a great knowledge about winning techniques both as a player and a coach.

  1. Return of Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir was the local lad of Delhi and played for the team for four consecutive seasons before he migrated to Kolkata Knight Riders. He captained the KKR team in its two title-winning seasons. He played 148 IPL matches and scored 4132 runs. He proved his efficiency as the Captain by leading KKR towards the title victory twice. The management of the franchise thought that he is the solution for the team’s woes due to the lack of proper leadership. He was named as the team’s captain for the current series.

He was sold out for Rs.2.8 crores for the current IPL season. He was a good player in the top order. He is well experienced to handle the critical conditions as a captain. He will be the key reason if the team wins title this season.

  1. Consistent Top order

The franchise is known for good openers since the beginning of Indian Premier League. The team comprises of consistent openers like Colin Munro, Jason Roy, the skipper Gautam Gambhir and the U19 captain Prithvi Shah. Munro and Roy, who are famous as the match winners are in the best of their form since a couple of series.

Munro and Roy can be asked to open the game and if this combination fails, Gambhir and Shah can come as the openers. The top order has the potential to make a strong base to win their first ever IPL title.

The middle order of the team was strong enough to tackle crunch situations. The franchise retained Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer to make a formidable batting line-up. Rishabh Pant made the fastest century in Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament in the recent past. The franchise retained youngsters like Naman Ojha, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer keeping in mind the upcoming seasons and to keep up the balance of talent and experience.

The franchise retained bowlers like South African pacer Kagiso Rabada to make a strong bowling line up. Kagiso Rabada did very well in the series against India recently. The team has a pacer like Chris Morris who can bowl consistently at the speed of 140KPH.

Coming to the spin bowling department, the team has players like Amit Mishra and Shahbaz Nadeem.  The team comprises of all-rounders like Vijay Shankar, Jayant Yadav, Dan Christian, and Gurkerat Mann Singh.
