Dinesh Karthik dragged the attention towards him once again by his last-ball sixer against Bangladesh in the final match of Nidahas tournament. This keeper-batsman has a good track record as a captain for Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy and in many domestic tournaments. Earlier, he came into the limelight by captaining TUTI Patriots team in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2016.karthik-iplCurrently, he was named as the skipper for the Kolkata Knight Riders team. He was sold out for a whopping amount of Rs.7.4 crore by the franchise for the upcoming IPL edition 2018. This was his 6th IPL franchise in 10 consecutive seasons. The irony is, he still did not get a chance to play for his home team, Chennai Super Kings. He expressed eagerness to play for his home team.

He said, “Heart of hearts, I thought I’ll be playing for CSK from the very first year. It’s been 10 years and it has never happened. The dream is getting smaller by the day. I don’t know if I’ll ever play for CSK. I have been born and brought up in the city and would have loved to play for the Chennai team,”

“But today, I have got the opportunity to lead an IPL team which is a big honor and I’d like to do justice to that. I think Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Mumbai have very loyal fans. That’s the beauty of franchise cricket. Chennai has always been an educated cricketing crowd and the way CSK has performed over the years has helped develop this massive fan base,” this keeper-batsman added.

This 32-year player wants to be the captain from the bottom of his heart. In this context, he said, “I’m in a space where I want captaincy. I have done it at various levels but this is my first in the IPL and I’m looking forward to it.”

The Kolkata Knight Riders team is going to kick-start its campaign in the IPL with the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
