Australian vice-captain David Warner has voluntarily stepped down as the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper because of his involvement in the Sandpaper gate.Speculations were already doing rounds over Warner’s fate in IPL after his teammate and Australian skipper Steven Smith who is the main culprit in the scandal stepped down as the Rajasthan Royals captain.
Confirming the news, Sunrisers Hyderabad CEO, K Shanmugam said, “In light of recent events, David Warner has stepped down as captain of SunRisers Hyderabad. The new captain of the team will be announced shortly.”
Shanmugam also added that the new captain to lead the orange team will be announced shortly. The ongoing investigation into the matter has intensified as the Cricket Australia is feeling the pressure from the global cricket fraternity.
